    Playing youtube videos on the WING is easy using CORE Player, YoutubePlayer, or Skyfire browser. It’s smooth, full screen.

    It’s out of warranty?

    In about a week I am posting a new video which is shot properly (unlike this video which was done on spur of moment with my still camera;s video mode)… It’s all in sharp closeups — which shows the Wing using a newer O.S., all new version of Google Maps, the TouchFlo 2D Manila interface, finger-nav start menu. Includes how to flash the rom. If you can buy used Wing on ebay,it’s really a great phone when good software is on it.

    MORE: “There’s 3 satellites at least that you must be able to receive from of the 24-32 out there, & they each broadcast a time from a synchronized atomic clock. The differences in those times that you receive at any one time tell you how long the broadcast took to reach you, & thus where you are in relation to the satellites. Note that this doesn’t tell you your orientation, many GPSes fake that by interpolating data points.”

    Google pinpoints your location within a 1/4 mile to 3 miles, which is quite a big spread. No personal data is collected, & “My Location” feature can be turned off anytime. Now, you don’t have to enter your location info to search nearby POIs. .. Similar to Navizon: service that triangulates user’s approx location based on cell data / WiFi info.”

    The Technical Explanation: Google Maps Mobile application adds the ability of regular, non-GPS enabled phones to have GPS-like functionality through the use of cellular tower triangulation technology to pinpoint a user’s location based on mobile network towers.

    The “My Location” service will make it possible to use the service indoors whenever there is cellular reception. The flipside is that the service isn’t as accurate as (CONT’D NEXT POST)

    You’re right, it is indeed a “cheap imitation” using GPRS triangulation. It’s just simpler to explain for most people’s purposes. Not everyone needs precision GPS down to the half-block.

    There’s already been 2 newer versions of Google Maps Mobile since I made this video, so you can focus on what the WING is lacking, or you can, as most regular consumers do, marvel at how Google Maps can locate you wherever you are — within, as they say, 800 meters, within 1-2 blocks, FREE.

    Ok - let me get this straight: My T-Mobile Wing / HTC Herald DOES have a GPS receiver in it, or you’re using a cheap imitation of GPS via GRPS/EDGE? Which one is it using, “quicksite”??

    God Dammit!I would out find about this Ifonz application after I cut off my Internet Package O well I guess I’ll download it by using Wi-Fi and stealing my neighbors internet connection lol I love Wi-Fi let other people pay while I reap the benefits but I’ll come on here for questions if it doesnt work the way that I plan it.

    Maybe you’re right. The accuracy, for me, is “pretty damn good”, even if it places your location 1-2 blocks away.

    When I am driving to a new destination, I use the Google Maps GPS function and it’s brilliant at helping me see where I am from zoomed-out seeing freeways, to close, seeing the angle of upcoming streets. The google interface SAYS “seeking satellite information”

    I know; the camera I used does not have “macro” focus to focus on objects very close to camera. I’m sorry it’s not sharp.

    I am going to shoot a revised version with another camera that has macro-focus.

    i use the full plan. i’ve never investigated the proxy.

    but as for these telecoms and all their distinct charges for bandwidth, it ticks me off that i pay for wifi/internet, but a text plan would be separate. that’s b.s.

    Neither. The beauty of this is that GOOGLE MAPS provides the GPS, i imagine as part of how it is constantly querying its system to draw the maps.

    All i can say is I am out and about and if i turn on “use GPS” within the Google Maps app, then the device begins seeking satellite information and it’s pretty instantaneous how it locates you on the map. If you start driving the locator is moving with you.

    btw, i have to make a whole new video. There’s a new G maps out, now w/ Street View. amazing

    Um, it wasnt hard for me because both my spl and ipl were 4.xx so i didnt have to hard spl.
    But it isn’t to difficult. Just read until you understand everything.

    Can you reply here for the benefit of anyone else reading here: Do you think I described it right as:

    * not actually that difficult…
    * but, until the instructions are presented more clearly, and in one place, it’s just cumbersome, & requires a ton of reading to make sure you’re not going to screw anything up

    I’d appreciate your reply - to help others.

    ALSO: just released is “Green Button” which ties iDialer to the green CALL button. Search it. Vastly better
